A Tribute to the Tao
Lake

The Tao is an expression of all things, all manner, all material.

Literature on the Lake Trigram of the Tao.

Lake is the experience of Joy through fullfilment.

The greatest harm to Lake comes through the negation of self. When the Lake can’t see its own brilliance because of the reflection of others, it forgets who it is in form.

Compartmentalization is the Expansion of Doubt into Fear

by Janice Brown (October 20, 2024)

Each time we feel apprehension, we take a little bit more of ourself  and hold it back, and this becomes a pattern of self-deceit that keeps you from being who you are.

Now, being who you are is always what you are in expression, but in a way, you are kind of turning away from the self so that you are looking at yourself at off-angles and this becomes the norm.

You no longer have a perception of the fullness and brilliance of who you are. And you are fantastic. So it’s worth knowing that this is just an illustration of who you think you are when you start narrowing yourself down into a smaller viewing version of yourself.

This is an ardent behaviour. It becomes the norm, and that’s where it becomes difficult, challenging even, to move through experiences with your heart wide open. Heart wide open doesn’t mean foolish; it means accepting, allowing, and having an unalterable faith in the experience you are having. It doesn’t help to be pragmatic in experiences of distortion simply because you are looking at an invalid set of data points.

Let me explain. If I come up and start talking to you about faith and love and light and God, you’ll swing your opinion in the direction of the life experience related to these definitions as you have come to view them. If I start talking to you about candy and lollipops and puppies and cutesie-pie things, you may take a look and cast them off as sweet but irrelevant. And there in this moment I would begin to feel a lack of strength. Not because they are irrelevant, but because I have an expression of worth and value that is tied to irrelevance in diminishment of self.

Now I know that seems a stretch, but we all have an off-angle, and when a piece of data falls squarely on that perch, it widens until at some point it’s a platform, and over time eventually it becomes a landscape, and no matter which direction I look, it’s all I can see.

So let me share with you some tools I’ve picked up along the way. There is always going to be some ‘one’ kind of phrase or expression of experience that is always, always, always going to rip the rug right out from under you. And this is the complete value in knowing your SolePath. Not because it makes you a better person or a fresh new version of yourself, but because it gives you highly tuned resources to look at your experience through fresh new eyes.

Now, if you think that the way I’m talking to you seems petty and foolish, you might identify as an unsavoury version of self known as ‘must be seen to be doing something that I deem of alue.’ Now that’s very specific language, but you can imagine that if you have a finely tuned lens to that very expression of experience, there are going to be some pretty hard days if all you are planning to do is sit by the lakeshore and pick up some new colours for your skin tone that day.

That person is always going to be pushing forward and casting aside the very important experience of rest and renewal. That same person might take on a project of momentous proportions and never see the value they are bringing to the world through the project because they are also looking through the lens of ‘not important enough.’

They will drive themselves into a spiralling hole and look up from a descent of diminishment over time that seems unscalable. No amount of effort, allowing them to reach a pinnacle because of the depth of the view that they are looking at from a purchase point of experience.

Now back to the experience of irrelevance.

What I’m really trying to emphasize here is that you are astoundingly wonderful. A truly delightful and likeable person. Someone with depth and character and reach, but you have a habit you don’t even know about. You look at a lens through a distortion of fear that captures you and clamps you into a box that keeps you outside of your full experience of living. And this becomes an idle game of cat and mouse where you don’t even bother looking in a new direction because you’ve seen it all before.

Well, maybe you have, but it’s only because you’ve been looking through a single narrow field of expression.

And that’s what we need to sort out, how to get your wobbly vision back on track in a more expansive and powerful way of looking at the self.

So I’ll walk you through my process, and you can see how that helps me and decide for yourself how you want to reach into your next experience of feeling doubt and hesitation.

Self-perpetuating inner turmoil and angst.

So a person experiencing apprehension because they feel wrong and also not right enough is going to have an experience of profound anxiety because they can’t find a safe place to land. If I give them a tool to sit down and try and eliminate thoughts, I’m unknowingly advising them towards an amplification of experience of apprehension because a) a Wind can’t ’not have thoughts’ by its very beautiful nature of being who it is, and b) a Lake lives in the depths of ‘I am wrong.’.

So when I can’t sit for even 5 minutes without having thoughts, even harmless ones, sweep through, I am automatically not doing it right, and then, more profoundly, I’m amplifying it by doing it wrong. And thoughts of wrong behave directly. It's a heavy, suffocating ooze that you can’t break free from the basement of thoughts that move and come with the speed of Wind to secure and then keep a person in an enveloped state of experience of apprehension and worry with no place to pivot.

The correct tool for this person has to be something to deal with the nature of the experience of apprehension. Wind needs a distraction that is uplifting or neutralizing. Lake needs some fun. You’ve got to be able to ask yourself what is the nature of who I am and the experience I am having vs. the nature of who that person is and the experience they were having.

There’s a 100% chance that what they were doing that brought them mounds of success in their experience is a tool that is dialed into their right-angle, not their off-angle. But if that tool is not your right-angle and amplifies your off-angle, well then, desperation city, here we come.

“I’ve tried all the things, and nothing works for me!” Exasperation. Or, “I’ve tried all the things, and nothing works for me.” Sadness. Equals different off-angles.

Emotions are the playing field of your life, and if you can’t get regulated, it’s because you don’t understand the mechanism that they play and how to move through the experience with this understanding.

How to know what works if you don’t know your own nature? Anything that makes you feel better. (Not an artificial feel better, like substance, a down-deep-in-your-boots feel better, or even a hint of a feel better.)

Did you crack a smile? Oops, feeling better.

Did you snort or guffaw? Feeling great.

Did you dip and not understand why? Pivot.

Pivot until you find your surefire-feel-better way and then get into exploring those off-angles when you can look at it from a wide angle instead of a narrow one. What matters the most in your life is how you are feeling in the moment.

The moments stack up, and when you keep stacking up low-quality moments, you are looking at invalid data points. You might even be carrying them around as proof or evidence that you really are always wrong or you can’t get it right. Narrow field of view.

But if you keep stacking up moments that are dialed in to how frikin’ awesome you are, at some point you’re going to be standing high enough on this wide-angle view of your life experience to really and truly start seeing yourself in your fullness—your ‘can do’ experience of life. And that enthusiasm can be quiet or self-assured, or peaceful or calm, or perpetually shifting into curiosity, but the thing to know is that experience will be uniquely yours.

Lets make life a playful jaunt through the realms.
